The WaldenHome project takes a radical reassessment of what is considered food in order for people to be able to produce a significant percentage of their nutritional requirements inside a small urban environment.

Algaes are at the base of the food chain in aqueous environments, they can be accounted for producing a large percentage of the oxygen which we breath. Algaes such as spirulina also contain almost every vitamin needed for survival and are almost seventy percent protein.

Under the correct conditions algaes are also incredibly fast growing, doubling their mass every three days. This means that it would be entirely feasible for a person to supply a percentage of their nutritional needs from an object no larger than a washing machine.

The WaldenHome project is an exploration of what these object might look like, presenting a dichotomy of design solutions from the very polished luxery consumer item to the ad-hoc solutions of expedient intelligence that people resort to in times of need.
